We had fun at the Bromley Eco Depot! On Tuesday 16 March, Team 12 and some parents went on a class trip. We went to the Eco Depot to learn about worm farms. We learnt about turning food scraps into good soil.
Our fantastic teacher Chris showed us and taught us how to make our own worm farms. He showed us Tiger Worms and Earth Worms and we had to spot the differences. We then all had a go at digging for worms. Triny, Myah and Samantha found 11!
Next Chris gave us old newspaper and he showed us how to make our worm farms in plastic bottles. We ripped our newspaper into strips then we squashed it into a bucket of cold water. We took turns mixing soil into it. Then we took out a medium sized handful of the gooey, wet paper and we squeezed out the water and put it in our bottles for bedding for the worms. We had to pick out five worms each, they were slimy and some people thought they were disgusting!
We learnt lots of things about worms and how to take care of our worm farms. We learnt that there are Earth Worms, Compost and Native Worms. They have five hearts, no eyes and have hair. We thought that was very interesting.
We had an awesome morning at the Eco Depot!
